E-Portfolio New Media

Evaluation

I really have to say that I have enjoyed the course „New Media in Foreign Language Education“. Although I already felt quite competent in working with New Media before the course, the seminar could offer a lot of new perspectives in using New Media for education purposes. What I really appreciated was, that we did not only discuss the actual use of Media in class, but that also theoretical questions (copyright, data-protection) were payed attention to. However, I wished that we would have relayed on more reliable sources (legislative texts etc.) When we visited the Martin-Luther-Schule, I was not convinced in the first place, that such a field trip would me new insights in the use of New Media in school. Taken into account, that I left school about 4 years ago, I could discover massive changes in the use of New Media, not only for education, but also for everyday school life, which I found really fascinating. That's why the field trip really was a highlight in this seminar for me.

In the first session, I got the impression that this seminar might just teach us the possibilities that exist in using New Media. Fortunately, the seminar also offered critical perspectives on when not to use Media for education and did provide us with the abilities how to choose from a variety of different tools for a particular teaching purpose. The idea of documenting one's learning progress in an E-portfolio and not in a term paper is a good idea, because it suits the purpose of the course best. I see the being advantage in the fact, that the workload is distributed over the whole semester, which guarantees constant learning.
